Gavin Webster - Standup Comedian

JIT

It's a case of trying to find time to fart at the moment. My West Highland Terrier finds loads of time to fart and he's the busiest being I've ever had the good fortune to meet in my life. Madonna is never off, she's always 'inventing' new styles of er stuff, having said that I'd say that my dog has made a more unique contribution to art than that old knackered skinny chaise-longue with a leotard for upholestery, he's a better singer for starters and at least he hasn't celebrated materialism as some sort of shackle breaking liberty and thus been an inspiration for middle class women and catty queen gay men that return tory governments every fuckin time in this country.

But I digress. Sorry there was no blog yesterday. I have as you can decipher been busy with writing, reading scripts, rehearsing, scheming, playing football (full match report tonight in 'And In The Sport) and generally doing positive things. Comedy hasn't changed. Madonna inspired earpieces are still the thing and suits and or skinny jeans and T shirts are still the comedy uniform. The 'there's three things you need to know about Dave' types are still reigning supreme but I watched a repeat of 'Sykes' last night from 1972 and it still is funny and makes you think that the 'amazing stories and the kid said the most amazing thing you'll ever hear in your life' types will have to go some to compete with that. God bless Eric Sykes, he wrote the whole series and the episode I saw featured a guest appearance by Peter Sellers, I'd say his only television acting appearance unless someone would like to put me right. Alright it's not as classy and high art as Alec Guiness' only small screen role in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy but fuck me it's funnier and indeed the ad libbing was far funnier than the antithesis of that on the average panel show you see today which looks like two top man rails with a relatively shite woman invariably dressed as man in there for tokenism.

Sunday night's Assembly gig was a bit bollocks as it goes. After a fantastic weekend gig wise and in terms of money, it was a downer to have the usual quirky Sunday gatecrashed by a bunch of folk from a fast food company on their Christmas night out. I know fuckin cheapskates. It swelled the audience but it was a frustrating gig. Never mind, there's a few booked for Sunday and it should be a great show, we've a good bill for that one.

I'm in Wales from tomorrow for a 3 day road trip so if you're in Narberth, Pontardowe or Blackwood then do get yourself down. Nothing else today. I'm busy and I'm sure you are so keep smiling. Speak tomorrow.

Mott and the Radio Stars were a big influence on the Manic Street Preachers. You could mention that in their home town of Blackwood
