It's been a pleasurable week not doing a great deal in terms of creativity, just catching up with books and getting dates in for 2013. I think I can safely say that'll I'll be doing this job full time this time next year and that's quite a boast during these lean times I can fuckin well tell you! Has the comedy bubble burst? Well yes and no is my bewitching answer. There's a few clubs on their arse and with it a few hack comics. The people who are making it (and there's precious few of them these days) are abandoning the circuit like a gas guzzling car owner in Dubai airport who's just been made redundant. What we're left with is a much reduced circuit but with new enterprises springing up putting comedy on, foolishly thinking that the Arena magic dust will sprinkle on their nightclub/casino/knocking shop and their short term dream is precisely that, short term.

Thanks christ for the art centres and the town halls that put comedy on once a month to discerning audiences and thank buddha for the Glee, The Stand, The Store, The Banana and a select few others for keeping the weekend circuit this side of playable. Sadly culture and with it comedian type culture drops the bar to such a level, we end up playing to a lot of morons a lot of the time but the gigs I've mentioned go out of their way to keep it real and keep it for the comedy purists.

I'm at York Racecourse tonight so fuck knows what to expect. I'm in Stafford tomorrow so fuck knows what to expect. It's Assembly on Sunday but 50% of the time fuck knows what to expect. One day Assembly will be great, I promise you that. In the meantime it's hit and miss. Do come on Sunday though, it's a great bill and these days it's 60-40 to the hits I'd say.
