Dead Comedians Society

MALCOLM HARDEEmalcolmhardee
I once spent a night in Birmingham drinking with Malcolm, Matt Welcome (comedian), Gary Wilmot (song and dance man and all round cunt), Rolf Harris (he went home early) and Bob Carolgees (ask your Dad). We actually had to be invited to the party by Bob Carolgees (how naff is that!)...... More here

HOVIS PRESLEY
hovispresley

Very much the embodiment of that North West of England style, the mammy’s boy sentiment and philosophical c’est la vie bluntness, he definitely carved out a style that has been much influenced on the likes of Johnny Vegas, Peter Kay and Jason Manford years later........More here

LINDA SMITH

You always know who is a decent sort in this business when they call you by your first name when you’re a young open spot....more here

TONY MENDOZA
tonymendoza
In my own humble opinion Tony Mendoza was one of the greatest stand up comedians of all time and also one of the great writers I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. Although not many people saw him (perhaps that’s a good thing, imagine what the cunt from chortle.com would have mad of him!!!), he did make an indelible mark on many a stand up comic of the mid ninetees generation. more here

OTHER DEAD COMICS I WISH I’D MET

BOBBY THOMPSON

Legendary North East comic. Part of the North East’s culture.

LES DAWSON

One of Britain’s finest comics. And a fine writer too.

CHIC MURRAY

Great Scottish surreal one liner merchant. Influential even to today’s comics.

GEORGE ROPER

Star of “The Comedians” in the seventies. Dry scouse wit. Very, very funny.

JIMMY JAMES

Probably the greatest music hall comic. Worked with two stooges. Surreal before the word was invented.

GROUCHO MARX

The ultimate joke writer. Internationally there was no one better.

TOMMY COOPER

Probably the most natural of them all. Everybody’s favourite impression.

KENNETH WILLIAMS

Character comedy at it’s best. Another great impression at a party.

PETER COOK

The bollocks. Pete and Dud, Derek and Clive especially and all the pissing about he did that managed to get itself on tape.

VICTOR BORGE

Bill Bailey anyone?

And Finally

My Grandfather, Charlie Webster 1899-1972 who apparently was hilarious but I only met him when I was a toddler. God rest them all.
