HOVIS PRESLEY | Print |
Hovis Presley
Born Richard Henry Mcfarlane but I didn’t know that. I just knew him as Hovis. A really pleasant bloke (I know that sounds like a cliché but he was), he was a properly talented comic poet (believe me some are shit!), this being proved by the fact that he could cut it on the stand up circuit which is never a very forgiving place. Very much the embodiment of that North West of England style, the mammy’s boy sentiment and philosophical c’est la vie bluntness, he definitely carved out a style that has been much influenced on the likes of Johnny Vegas, Peter Kay and Jason Manford years later. I have to say I wish I had had his lack of ambition and not giving a shit attitude as it’s made him look a lot cooler posthumously than a lot of acts have who are desperate to be cool now. Have a look at his work and a bit about his life on www.hovispresley.co.uk
