TONY MENDOZA

1969-2006

In my own humble opinion Tony Mendoza was one of the greatest stand up comedians of all time and also one of the great writers I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. Although not many people saw him (perhaps that’s a good thing, imagine what the cunt from chortle.com would have mad of him!!!), he did make an indelible mark on many a stand up comic of the mid ninetees generation. Apart from myself, Ross Noble, Dave Gorman and Tony Burgess (is there a better writer?) count themselves as fans as well as countless others.
Tony was brought up in the east end of Newcastle with lots of disadvantages compared to most other people, financially and otherwise but after getting up on stage at about the age of nineteen to do his first gig right through to the bitter end of his non career at about the age of twenty seven, he had influenced a generation and his material is quoted amongst a select few just as much as more famous comedians will ever be. I don’t want to give away his jokes because I’d love to do a website that’s devoted to the man’s material. But trust me on this, he was one of the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen and worked with them all. Watch this space and I’ll tell you all about the stand up for Tony events that’ll be happening in the future
